Recycle lithium-ion batteries? A challenge that still needs to be solved in detail - Tuesday, 16.05.2023

At HOPPECKE we take our social responsibility seriously

Jointly with the leading battery recycling company in China, Huayou Recycling Technology, we concluded a Memorandum of Understanding last week to create future solutions for a circular economy for lithium-ion batteries. Thus, HOPPECKE is the first European company with which the lithium recycling specialist is entering into a cooperation.

Compared to the recycling of lead-acid batteries, the recycling of lithium-ion batteries is a complex process. Unlike lead-acid batteries, lithium-ion batteries are made from a variety of valuable materials, including cobalt, nickel, manganese, aluminium and graphite. In order to be able to recycle these materials, an elaborate separation process is necessary, which makes the recycling process significantly more complex and complicated than with lead-acid batteries.
