Climb of Life 2022 raised more than £51,000! Well done to everyone involved in the challenge. All funds generated support the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR). Its important work makes a big difference.
Modest fundraising target
Of course, there’s no denying today’s financial challenges. The rising cost of living affects us all. In so many ways. Yet Climb of Life is a vital ICR fundraiser. Ultimately, the organisers agreed it should go ahead but set their sights on a more modest fundraising target.
Kilt
So, 90 people took up the challenge on November 4. They included our sales director Gus Whyte who, as ever, wore his kilt! Together with wife Liz, Gus raised more than £1,750. Another brilliant achievement.
Wainwright Fells
The participants split into nine groups. Plus eight dogs. In total, they tackled 15 Wainwright Fells in the Lake District National Park. It was an early morning start from their base in Glenridding on Ullswater.
Mixed weather
At the outset, the walkers enjoyed glorious sunshine. Overall, however, the weather was mixed. The day ended in decidedly wet conditions. Happily, everyone arrived back safely in the late afternoon. Amongst the peaks they climbed were Fairfield (873m), High Street (828m) and Blencathra (868m).

Later, at a celebratory dinner, the ICR outlined recent achievements. Certainly, there is progress in the field of cancer research. Richard Hoey, the ICR’s head of communications, also highlighted new treatments. These really do help to improve patients’ lives. A raffle and auction rounded off the day in style. Bidding was brisk. When added to individual and company sponsorships, the funds raised took the overall total to £51,460.
